My mom and two sisters have recently started their own little book club that they keep trying to get me involved in. I have read so many of the books they've wanted me to read and I've genuinely disliked the majority. So far they have absolute refused to read anything I suggest because they know we have very different tastes and chances are they aren't going to like what I pick. I've pointed out time and time again that that's exactly what they do to me but because I'm outnumbered I always end up conceding and wasting hours of my life reading a book I never would've picked up otherwise.

They know how much I hate having my time wasted and I'm getting pretty sick of the whole thing so I've decided I'd like to play somewhat of a game with them. To preface, one of my sisters and I are very much left leaning independents while my mom and other sister are pretty hardcore MAGA. So I will read absolutely anything they ask me to under the circumstance that we all take turns and we cannot say no to what the current chooser picks. Most likely they'll have me read a bunch of fantasy, romance, and murder mysteries at first, but I would like to get them educated.

So, the entire point of this post is that I need suggestions from people on the right side of history that will help educate my family about why the world is falling apart and how our rights are slowly being ripped from us.

I am currently about to start "The Women's History of the Modern World" by Rosalind Miles and afterward plan to read "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn. I would love more books like these. I have tried things like 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies, and basically anything we were all forced to read in school that accurately predicted how our world would turn out but not only do they just not want to reread things, they are convinced that I'm remembering incorrectly or exaggerating what happens in those books. My MAGAt sister has already repeatedly said things like "we're not in The Handmaid's Tale" and "it's 2026, not 1930s Germany," and all kinds of stuff. I'm not super confident I'll change her mind unless I change my mom's mind, but I do feel like my mother shares a lot more of my opinions than she's willing to admit at this point.

I love my family too much to let them be on the wrong side of history with this and this is the only way I can think to educate them while also giving them what they want, which is me reading their books. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
