Something where plot is " The main character is still trying to solve the main mystery, such as what is found at the bottom of the abyss, so that throughout the entire reading of the book there is intrigue and interest, "what is there down there" and it is desirable that the book be at least somewhat known

Have you checked out Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer? It’s got that same “what the hell is actually happening here” vibe where the main character is trying to figure out this mysterious Area X and the deeper they go the weirder it gets
