I'm a couple chapters into A Gentleman in Moscow, a book written by an American and set in Russia. As far as I can tell, Towles has no Russian ancestry, doesn't speak Russian, and has never lived in Russia (which is totally fine, it's a novel not a history). But I don't know if I've ever read any fiction set in the US and written by a non-American who has never lived in the US. The only media I have seen along those lines are Bollywood films like English Vinglish and My Name Is Khan which are set in the States but are very much meant for an Indian audience.
Suggest me a book! And bonus if it was originally written in a language other than English or otherwise not seeking an American audience.
