Could anyone recommend a books that tells about the history of the Silk Road? If possible, not a door-stopper kind of a book full of boring facts but an easily readable one. I have become interested in the trade between the Far East and Europe through the Central Asia.
The problem is that I was "traumatized" by history teaching in school: difficult-to-read foreign names of places and people which I could never remember and dates and years after years that did not tell me anything (and wars! I had no clue of who was fighting who and why). It was so boring that I ignored everything and I'm still having a hard time even touching a book that tells about history of a place.
If there is a book for teenagers or dummies I would be happy to hear about it.
