No idea where to start, but I want to create me time and read even after the kids go to bed, I just don’t know what I should start with I’m not much of a reader but mostly because I have zero time it seems.
I haven’t read a book for myself since college and I’m 37 now.
Any ideas on what to start with?
Maybe ones that curb burnout and get me out of my every day
Thanks

Are you looking for engaging novels? Short stories? The start of a series? Non-fiction?
What kinds of stories are interesting to you? Do you want romance, suspense, thriller, mystery, fantasy?
The adventures of Amina Al Sarafi
Retired female pirate captain, now a mom, brings her crew back together for one more caper. Female author.
Not too sure what your genre is but I’m you’re age as well and here are some books I’ve loved and maybe you would too!!!
The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden (just became a movie too!)
Verity by Colleen Hoover
God of the Woods by Liz Moore
After the Flood by Kassandra Montag
Been there!
When I wanted to start reading again the first time I went with YA so it was a bit easier to succeed.
I read Percy Jackson to my kid. Harry Potter and that kind of thing.
I read Eragon on my own and then found time to read some historical fiction when life started allowing it.
All the Light We Cannot See – this was my first grown up book in a long time.
I had a few books that I gave up on after that. Don’t be discouraged. Try and only pick books people LOVE. Engaging reads that will make you find time.
Try some genres and see what you enjoy!
I found historical fiction, autobiographies and mysteries tended to keep me engaged.
You’ll get there mama! Life just keeps getting better after 37 😉
If you would like to escape into a fantasy world, I would recommend YA fantasy as it tends to have less world building, because who has time for that right now? Not me. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor was an entertaining read for me. I’m currently listening to Mirage by Somaiya Daud and it’s an easy pace fantasy YA. For something of a different genre, I tend to gravitate toward historical fiction with women as the main characters. I loved The Book of Longings, Th Red Tent, the Color Purple, Keikeyi. If a novel is too much for your attention span right now you can find a collection of short stories and those are almost always worth your time. I listen to audiobooks during the day and try to read with my eyes at night. Download the Libby app and enter your library card number and you will have so many books available to borrow. Hope that helps a little.
What sort of things do you like and what sort of adventure do you want to go on?
Try What Alice Forgot by Lianne Moriarty. A little bit of mystery, sensitive commentary on the joys and trials of family life… The audiobook is what got me back into reading post babies.
Maybe Audible or audiobooks on Spotify would also be good? Audiobooks can take a little time to get used to, but they’re great if you just can’t open a book at the moment. I listen to them in the car and while I cook.
Fellow overwhelmed mom here! If you’re up for a bit of fantasy I’d go for some Terry Pratchett. Fun, silly, and easy to read in short chunks. Maybe start with Wyrd Sisters
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. Short chapters, so you should be able to read at least one before you go to sleep.
