Hello, I’m searching for Black history books by Black authors, but Google keeps showing me white authors about Black history. I would really like to learn more about the history and their experiences, but written BY BLACK AUTHORS. I would love books like a diary sort of books but a normal history book would be great too.

There’s a long thread of suggested books from today or yesterday with tons of great suggestions. I have to ask – what key words are you searching on Google? I come up with only black authors when I search for books by black authors on Google.
After finding out several months ago that the most popular Black history book has a lot of factual errors, I emailed my library to ask for more reliable sources by Black authors. This is the list the librarian made for me:
Audiobooks
* The Grimkes: The Legacy of Slavery in an American Family by historian Kerri K. Greenidge
* Ebony & Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America’s Universities by American history professor Craig Steven Wilder
* Fighting for America: Black Soldiers– The Unsung Heroes of World War II by historian and curator Christopher Moore
* My Face Is Black Is True by Mary Frances Berry, historian and lawyer
* Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour: A Narrative History of Black Power in America by Peniel E. Joseph, a scholar/teacher
* White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide by historian Carol Anderson
* Wild Girls: How the Outdoors Shaped the Women Who Challenged a Nation by historian Tiya Miles (sometimes credited as Tiya Alicia Miles)
Graphic Novel
* Wake: The Hidden History of Women-led Slave Revolts by historian Dr. Rebecca Hall
I have no idea of what color are 99% of the authors i read.
I really enjoy The Humanity Archive by Jermaine Fowler
South To America by Imani Perry
Paul Beatty, perhaps.
This may be a little difficult to find, but I recommend Proud Shoes, by Pauli Murray. It’s her story of her grandparents before and after the civil war, based on their accounts and also extensive archival research. Beautifully integrates one family’s history with the history of the country.
Also, The Warmth of Other Sons, by Isabel Wilkerson, about the great migration of Black southerners to the North.
Stamped from the beginning by Ibram X Kendi
The warmth of other suns by Isabel Wilkerson
