Hi everyone — this is a little vulnerable to post, but I’m hoping for some book suggestions and maybe advice from people who’ve done something similar.

I live thousands of miles away from my mom and I haven’t been able to see her in about 5 years due to finances and life circumstances. I’m in my early 30s and she’s in her mid-60s. She’s always been more quiet and keeps to herself, but we love each other a lot and I miss her terribly.

I also recently became a mother myself, and honestly… it has changed me a lot. I feel like I’ve grown up in ways I didn’t expect, but at the same time life feels really confusing right now. I feel kind of lost and like I’m trying to understand life, family, and relationships from a totally new perspective.

I recently started reading The Measure, and it’s really making me reflect on life, time, and what actually matters. It made me realize how much I want to connect with my mom in a deeper way while we’re both here and able to.

I had the idea that maybe we could read the same book together — like a chapter a day or at our own pace — and talk about it. I’m hoping it could give us something meaningful to share and help us reconnect despite the distance.

The problem is I’m not sure what book or genre would be a good place to start, especially since:

    • She isn’t a huge reader

    • I’d love something thought-provoking but still accessible

    • Something that could spark conversation or emotional connection would be amazing

    • Preferably not super long or overwhelming

Has anyone done a shared long-distance book with a parent or loved one? Any book suggestions you think might be meaningful for this?

    Thank you for reading ❤️
