Hi, I just watched this movie recently and enjoyed it a bit but had the feeling it could have been really good if it was more fleshed out. So I was disappointed to find it’s not based on a book unlike most 80s movies.
The movie is about a woman who lives in rural Texas in the 1930s and whose husband is killed accidentally. She has to keep up their farm and raise two kids. She hires a homeless black man to help around the farm and later has to take a blind man as a tenant (to get more money from his rent) and they form a bit of a found family.
The themes I liked and wanted to see:
-Race and disability in historical America
-Great Depression impact in a rural area
-Found family of very different people
-Slice of life historical fiction (or just actually written in that time period)
