I'm definitely being a bit peculiar here but I have been struggling so much to find a next book to listen to, so I thought I could always give it a try to ask here ~ thanks to anyone that wants to help. Feel free to suggest just from the title, or otherwise for a bit more context:
life pretty rough right now. rough things keep happening to characters in my books too and I can just tell that instead I am aching for a book that at least has overarching hopeful / feel-good / optimistic notes.
And please don't judge me – I am a big fan of UK English and don't usually mind American English, but I just tried downloading and listening to both Project Hail Mary and Remarkably Bright Creatures on audible, and I've refunded both of them because I just do not love the narrators. Project Hail Mary just had a super American narrator and the language was a little bit too crude for me – so far. I realise I just need to look for either a British narrator (I have recently enjoyed the narration of Butter by Asako Yuzuki, and also that of The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro.) or an American narrator that feels a little bit less action movie hero.
So basically: do recommend me any book on audible with a narrator you enjoyed, even if they're not British. But it helps, for me!
I've recently enjoyed:
– Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa – was a fun quick read, but a bit too melancholy overall to be what I'm looking for right now
– Out of the Silent Planet by CS Lewis – I really just very much enjoy his descriptions of the alien planet and the alien creatures
Other books I've enjoyed if it helps: Butter, The Hobbit, LOTR, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, Alice in Wonderland is my favourite book ever.
