I'm looking for books that have dragons in them. They can be draconics or straight up dragons (or both!). I would prefer books that have dragons as the good guys, and they must be an integral, big part of the story. So no 'this book's main campaign is slaying that bad dragon' or 'this story just so happens to have a dragon on page 82'. It CAN, however, be 'this story is about slaying a 'bad' dragon, but things are not as it seems and they find out that the dragon is actually good before slaying it/during the fight'. I would also prefer dragons to be an active part of the world, so no lore about extinct dragons. Rather, I want them to exist 'now'. It can, however, be only one dragon as the last one or something. I would also prefer the least amount of dragon death as possible, if possible. I like happy endings! (Of course, it can be very difficult to GET that happy ending, because otherwise there would be no story for me to read!)
Lastly, I would prefer no anthro/furry/upright animal stories. No hate to any of those, it just isn't my thing.
That being said, dragons are intelligent and complex beings, so I'm okay if they have their own village and cultures and talk or whatever, I just prefer to also have humans in the story? I can't really explain it properly, as I am aware I'm creating a very blurry line here, but I hope I'm making myself clear, haha!

I like the genres fantasy, for dragons I prefer if it were medieval. I love the adventurers genre, and I absolutely adore shapeshifters. I thoroughly enjoy found family and/or platonic pairings. I like action scenes with moments of rest in between them; it can't be ALL action, I would like to see the characters do their thing in between. But it also can't be all rest moments, either! I'm very much a 'character drives story' person, so I would really like dynamic characters and the bonds they share with other characters, etc.
I do NOT enjoy romance, especially not as the main story. I vastly prefer platonic pairings. At the risk of sounding overtly prudent, sexual content makes me uncomfortable so I don't read books with that in it. No shame or hate to those who like it, I just happen not to. I also have trouble following really complicated stories, and as a result, I am sorry to say that stories I cannot follow tend to bore me. I have trouble grasping undertones and reading in between the lines, as well as understanding insinuations. (I'll often end up reading analyses and be like 'ohhh this makes so much sense, how did I not catch that!')

An example of what I like, for instance, are the Rick Riordan books! I haven't read them all yet, but I do have some on my TBR list and others that I have to re-read to get to those and yet others that I still have to get. I also like the Hunger Games. And though I don't understand them fully at all, I enjoyed I, Robot and The Martian.

If you do have any recommendations, please include a short summary of the plot! I love to know what I'm getting into. Though I prefer no spoilers if possible.
I really hope to get some good dragon stuff! Thank you in advance. 🙂
