Book where the female protagonist gets assaulted and the male protagonist is utterly devastated.

I want the female protagonist to go through something bad (tortures, rape, or being beaten up by the enemies) and I specifically and absolutely want the male protagonist to be completely broken, devastated for a long period of time, way way way more hurt than her.

I want slow burning. TheI like dystopian, fantasy and historical fiction, and I would like a slow burn book, even if it's a subplot.
