Looking for entertaining non-fiction books on things I take for granted

I love rabbit holes. I'm interested in finding some books that take a deep dive into things I may not know about or even better think I already know about. I've been reading on the rise of evangelicalism in politics in the US. I live in the medical and scientific world so I'd like to stay away from that unless particularly captivating. Open to anything to make me go huh. Thanks!
