Quick and dirty – love Neil Stephenson, especially Cryptonomicon and Reamde, listened to ASOIAF through twice, currently slogging through Wheel of Time. Recently introduced to Children of Time, liked it. Loves me so Cormac McCarthy, The Passenger may be my favorite book to date. Hit me with some recommends. Don’t even mind some curveballs. Thanks so much!

    1. You’d probably enjoy The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie, starting with **The Blade Itself**. Dark, gritty, funny, character-driven fantasy. The audiobooks are top tier, narrated by Steven Pacey, and really elevate the series. Endlessly quotable, featuring a cast of highly-flawed bastards you’ll come to love. Violent, filled with dark humor/cynical wit. 10 books in total, all excellent.

You might also enjoy The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, his epic, dimension-hopping, dark fantasy opus. The first book, **The Gunslinger**, is great, but also short and written awhile before the others. The series really kicks off with book 2, **The Drawing of the Three**, with a new audiobook narrator, introduction of the main cast, and a lot more humor/tight plotting, so give that a chance if you’re intrigued but not necessarily feeling the first one (I loved it from the start, but some don’t so just saying!).

**Red Rising** by Pierce Brown is a fun, fast-paced, dark and twisty, dystopian sci-fi/fantasy revenge story, with excellent audiobooks narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds. Complex characters, creative world building, and an epic, action-packed story, which starts out a bit like The Hunger Games in space but quickly grows into its own, original thing.
