I'm looking for a book that has toxic masculinity in it, either purposely put or unintentionally added by the author.

Many books I read that address sexism, domestic violence, or sexual assault seem really ham-fisted and I can't suspend my disbelief. I'm looking for books that have well-rounded, toxic men who engage in the patriarchy. (Either struggling against it or enforcing it.)

I'm not looking for romance books. The genres I like are fantasy, sci-fi, westerns, and historical fiction in the 1870s set in America, Japan, or China. I'm willing to read outside of these genres as well as long as romance is not the main focus.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. For SFF, Iron Widow definitely has a lot of male characters who’ve fully bought into toxic masculinity, and a few who haven’t. Good worldbuilding based on a highly gendered society, plus killer robots. Author is Xiran Jay Zhao.
