I am reading my first Dan Brown book, Angels & Demons. Have read around 100 pages by now and I am hooked! His other books are already on my wishlist, but I'd love recommendations for other authors!
You could try the Sigma Force series by James Rollins. The main characters are military instead of academic, but the stories are still a lot about history.
