I love books that are nitty, gritty and very intense subjects like Pretty Girls from Karin Slaughter. I love her writing, but I hate the amount of sex and romance are also sprinkled in her books. I want SVU type of books or books that make you keep guessing “WhoDunIt” that keeps you guessing until the end.
Unfortunately the only series that has the type of material I love and with no romance or sex is from Charley Cox and she is only but one author. I have read up to her latest book and I find myself searching for more types but come up short. I have been reading a lot of Karin Slaughter but I find myself skipping past the annoying sex and unnecessary romance. i get most people love that, but frankly them boring and just placed there for God knows why.
I have looked up online for suggestions and majority of them lie because when I check out the books, there is romance or a lot of sex. And the other suggestions aren’t even close to what I ask for or just the classics. I have tried the Sherlock Holmes and other typical “go to” titles but I have already read them or they don’t appeal to me. It’s the same for my other favorite genre: fantasy, but that genre is another romance ruled area.
I love reading books but unfortunately my interest is limited to a cluster of various genres where romance and sex takes a giant monopoly of material. I read a lot of true crime and historical nonfictional books it I want some good non classic murder/mystery/suspense titles with an interesting protagonist, whose only interest is solving the case. Maybe even starting a good friendship with a platonic partner. I would greatly appreciate some suggestions from fellow bookworms. My imagination and love for books are starving for some new material.
