Just finished the first book in the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and it was by no means my favorite book. Honestly, I give it overall a 5/10. A very visceral writing style. Masterful in its mood and tone. That King magic was working, even if it was a more infantile work of his. It did not fully posses me though. Being the first in the series, most novels leave you hungry for the next one. But this one works well as a stand alone. No real cliff hangers. Only questions a reader might seek to be answered, such as: Will Roland make it to the dark tower? and others like: what the heck is this story even about? And: What the heck did I just read?

Or should I not bother? I love king but I want to read the best of his stuff, and not waste my time.
