I’m a big reader but I wouldn’t call what I read exactly intelligent or top literature by a lot of peoples standards, and I’m fine with that – tried reading some “classic literature” and just couldnt get into it. Im looking for books that I’d find fun or enjoyable.
I’m a fan of the Dresden Files Book Series, Percy Jackson, VE Schwab’s books (mainly the Villains series), anything by Brandon Sanderson.
I also like sad books like 13 Reasons Why & Perks of Being a Wallflower.

John Scalzi writes fun sci-fi books. Maybe “Starter Villain” or “Kaiju Preservation Society” might fit the bill?
T Kingfisher books are great. She has some modern cozy horror type books, like “House With Good Bones” or “The Hollow Places”, and she also does fantasy (again, kind of cozy and funny, lower stakes-type stuff). I enjoyed “Nettle and Bone”, “Swordheart”, and “When a Sorceress Comes to Call”. Her Saint of Steel series is also pretty fun but with a heavier romance angle.
Look at Ilona Andrews. Any of their books are good but the Kate Daniels series, first book Magic Bites snd the Innkeeper Chronicles, first book Clean Sweep are a good start to see two very different sides to their writing. Both series urban fantasy. All their books have humor.
Also look at Yasmine Galenorn, Otherworld series, first book Witchling. Also urban fantasy. She’s written a lot of series and I like most but I’d start with this one.
For mainstream contemporary humorous romance fiction read Jennifer Crusie, esp her collaborations with Bob Mayer. I’d start with Agnes and the Hitman or for a fantasy twist Wild Ride. For a work she wrote alone all are hilarious at points but Bet Me is my favorite.
For contemporary humor fiction Rita Mae Brown Venus Envy. When the MC is told she’s dying by her doctor she writes letters to all her friends and family telling them exactly what she thinks of them, then has to deal with the fallout. I laughed until I cried at one point.
