I adored The Last Picture Show and All My Friends are going to be strangers by Larry McMurtry and enjoyed the western aesthetic set in a more modern era. Are there any works like these set in Current or Near Current day America by contemporary authors?

try cormac mccarthy if you havent already – no country for old men and the road have that same desolate western vibe but there definitely contemporary. annie proulx also nails that modern cowboy thing especially in her wyoming stories
