I am an undergraduate student who works in multiple research labs and a clinic. I’m about to graduate and begin my masters, and all I can think of is how my bachelors degree led me to lose my attention span by “death by a thousand papercuts,” so to speak.
I used to love reading and learning and thinking about the topics I research and care about (psychology, social determinants of health, ethics and philosophy). However, the notifications, emails, mindless assignments and group work has led me off the path of genuine curiosity and a true love of learning (it’s also led me away from the ol’ “attention span”).
For anyone who has faced a similar situation, I’d love to hear which books brought you back to reading and long-form content! I’ve thought about starting with one of Cal Newport’s books, but just not sure.
