Many people just think that 'emotional' means sad or distressed, but I mean it in a general sense. I'm looking for literary fiction that is good at writing and exploring emotions, not necessarily as a core theme but as a natural part of the narration. I would like to read books that have an intelligent and interesting incorporation of how emotions blend into and impact how we perceive life. I've been told my own writing lacks emotional depth/connection so I would like to read from authors who are particularly good at this.

Some book I think were particularly good or interesting at describing emotions:

    • The Pigeon – Suskind
    • South of the boarder, west of the sun – Murakami
    • Drive your plow over the bones of the dead – Tokarczuk
    • The unbearable lightness of being – Kundera
    • Breasts and Eggs – Kawakami
    • Never let me go – Ishiguro
