I'm going to Iceland in April and I'm looking to find a book with a setting that matches its vibes (e.g., remote, isolated, rolling hills, waterfalls, volcanoes, northern lights, just generally crazy landscapes). Ideally it would be either historical fiction or fantasy, as those are my jams.

If possible, I'd also love something that ties in Norse mythology / paganism. For instance, I've just read The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell which takes place in 5th century Britain and ties in pagan magic – this would have been the perfect book for me if I was going to the UK.

I'm not too fussed about the actual plot – it could be about vikings, the colonization of Iceland, a fantasy world that just matches the vibes of Iceland. I'm really just looking for something where I can feel like I'm experiencing the crazy setting of the book.

    1. Burial Rites by Hannah Kent.

Set in the rural sheep farms of Iceland in 1829, a young woman is charged with a brutal murder and is housed at an isolated farm while she awaits trial. Based on a real person and history, I found the story fascinating and the descriptions of the landscape and living conditions to be vivid and harsh.
