I feel like Goodreads is quite brutal. And it’s very much affecting what I read. Because there are millions of books, why bother wasting time on anything that is below 4.5?
However, I deep down know that I am missing out on some very good stuff, albeit maybe a bit niche?
What are you favorite books that didn’t manage to score well on Goodreads. Let’s say lower than a 3.5 give or take.

‘Among Friends’ by Hal Ebbott. Beautifully written book about a very complicated topic. Loved it – five stars – but it’s only at 2.82 on Goodreads.
If Goodreads or BookTok hates a book, it’s usually a good omen.
I know my tastes don’t match the majority, so I don’t pay attention to what the average ratings are, but rather what people say about the book.
A recommendation of a <3.5 books (3.15 rating) is The Unmapping by Denise Robbins. I gave it 5 stars…it’s quirky but has deep themes.
Goodreads hates my book. Kirkus loved it.
One Goodreads person literally gave it 2 stars because they don’t like the genre.
