Hello book enthusiasts! Im going to apologise in advance as this may not be the most exciting recommendation request.
I travel a lot for work and have found myself consuming a pretty solid volume of books, of all genres. Recently I’ve tried to focus more on things that will assist me in improving my performance in my role (yes I’m a slave to the system, but I’ve found myself really enjoying picking up a nugget of knowledge from a book and then immediately trying it out).
I work in a sales-ey b2b account manager-ey sort of role, but I’ve found that a lot of books directed at “my” demographic are very bro-sciencey “buy into my 5 steps to always get what you want” “dominate your customers” “read 300 pages about how great I am” sort of content. I’m more interested in more educational content around human psychology, team dynamics, communication and negotiation, general business stuff, problem solving and the like. I’m partial to autobiographical works, particularly if they have more dense content around the author’s area of expertise. I’m also very happy to stray into content about completely unrelated fields of work or human endeavour, if there’s interesting lessons to be learned in there. I’m also not opposed to a cheeky podcast recommendation as long as that doesn’t get either of us in trouble!
Off the top of my head, books I’ve particularly enjoyed/benefited from so far have been:
– Thinking, fast and slow by Daniel Kahneman
– Never split the difference by Chris Voss
– Psychology of Intelligence Analysis by Richards J.Heur
– Thank you for arguing by Jay Heinrichs (this one had some interesting info but I must admit I found the author borderline insufferable)
Anyway, hopefully I haven’t come off like too much of a knob (I felt a little like one while writing this) and I’m happy to try out any recommendations at all!
