A book where there character struggles with feelings of empathy/strong morality/willingness to sacrifice, in a world that doesn’t?

I tend to have the “other people have it worse so I must get it together for their sake,” “how can I help others,” animal activism, antinatalism, “willing to sacrifice everything for greater good, no questions asked” kind of mentality. I have not been able to find others quite like this in everyday life.

I feel really isolated and would like a book (doesn’t matter what genre) where the main character battles with these things as well? Preferably someone with a really solid foundation of morals that they’re not willing to sway away from.
