Books where the protagonist is motivated by greed

In many books the characters act due to external circumstances. For example, if the protagonist needs to rob a bank they are most likely robbing the bank to secure funding for a noble purpose or pay off a debt/ransom.

I'm looking for books where the bank is robbed because the protagonist wants a bigger house or a faster car.

I'm open to recommendations from any genre. It could be a detective story where the detective blackmails the killer instead of letting the police know or a fantasy novel where the "hero" simply wants to obtain land and servants.

It'd be even better if the protagonist doesn't necessarily target evil people. Anyone can steal from Evil Inc. I'd like to see someone try to steal from a charity auction.
