History books are now my main focus. I recently read a detailed book about World War I, and now I want to read about World War II. Do you have any detailed recommendations?
Inferno by Max Hastings is the best single book covering the entire war I’ve read.

The Second World War, by Antony Beever

Unfortunately I haven’t read a single volume that encapsulates this war well, but I would recommend a trilogy by Richard Evans.
The Coming of the Third Reich (2003) – Details the rise of the Nazis to power.
The Third Reich in Power (2005) – Covers the transformation of Germany from 1933-1939.
The Third Reich at War (2008) – Examines the period from 1939-1945
They are also available in audio, all narrated by Sean Pratt
Of course this is just one aspect of the war focusing on German, with not nearly enough information on The Soviet Union switching sides or the part the Chinese played in reigning in the Japanese.
