When I tell bedtime stories, I always end up defaulting to the hero’s journey, with the three trials and coming home a changed person. My kiddos LOVE them and I think they would love to read some age-appropriate mythology-like stories. I’d really love for books that come from different cultures. Any suggestions?

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. For similar books from other cultures, look into the Rick Riordan Presents publishing imprint.
I think D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths is pretty respected, and skews around 7-9 years old.

The Brownstone’s Mythical Collection by Joe Todd-Stanton. Each book revisits a different myth from the point of view of a child.
Introduction to Mythology for Kids, by Zachary Hamby
The Chronicles of Narnia! CS Lewis took a lot of inspiration from various mythologies and I loved having these books read aloud to me at that age!
If they’re into mythology, D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths is a classic and works great as a read-aloud.
Also worth checking: Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson (if they’re ready for a longer chapter book) and the Usborne Greek Myths book for shorter stories.
