I read a lot. And I've never before had a book give me such a horrid nightmare as The Change by Kirsten Miller. I bought this book at a charity shop. It was only 20p. I didnt actually realise it was feminist fiction when I bought it. I had never read that type of fiction before. Anyway, I'm about halfway through the 400 plus page book. I had been reading it before bed last night. And I woke up at 2am from a long, awful nightmare where I was being SA by around 7 men, all of them smirking and laughing as they harmed and humiliated me. I was so upset when I woke up because it seemed so real and it took me forever to wake up from it – it was like an extended SA in my dreams.
I've tried to think of other culprits besides the book, but I cant. Because in this book, the female characters are constantly being subjected to some form of sexual harassment off perverted, sexist men.
I've always been a bit of a tomboy, and I've always gotten on with men, so I'm surprised I would have such a nightmare. I'm also not usually upset by anything fiction, be it films, television shows, or books.
I cannot believe a book did this to me. Is this what "feminist" fiction does to women?
