I am open to any genre, language, or time period. I am especially interested in books that stand out in some aspect of craft: writing style, character depth, atmosphere, structure, or thematic complexity.

I enjoy stories that explore identity, morality, obsession, psychology, or existential questions, but I am also open to completely different tones and themes if the book feels intentional and memorable.

    Some books I have loved:

    • The Picture of Dorian Gray

    • Frankenstein

    • White Nights

    • My Dark Vanessa

    • 1984

    • The Stranger

I appreciate strong prose and layered characters, but I am open to being surprised. What book impressed you because of how well it was written or constructed?

Thousand Autumns by Meng Xi Shi. A very unconventional love story where the love interest tests the Taoist priest’s belief to force him make moralistic choice – there can not be true morality person. It has lighter moments, but otherwise a pretty serious reading.

    2. Never by Ken Follett, it’s a fictional but realistic story about the lead up to nuclear war. I’m not really one for stories about war but I really liked that one, it was chilling and definitely memorable. You can tell it’s very well researched, and explores the themes you’d expect from that type of story. Quite fast paced and not one that’ll leave you feeling great afterwards but a really good read imo.
