As the title says, but the catch is that the book can't even mildly resemble an anti-drugs PSA or be of the tragic and dramatic kind. I'm looking for something with a first person narrator with a lot of personality who tells the story like they're talking to you personally and who delves deeply into their experiences with addiction to any of the more popular life-ruining hard drugs, but without the plot being about their struggle or their recovery, more like just some guy (or lady) who is going through their life while being a drug addict, and the addiction is always present (because it cannot be any other way) but not something they plan to overcome. Also, the shittier the protagonist, the better.

Trainspotting mostly fits the bill (very bleak but also absurdly funny, and to give you an idea of the type of protagonist I'm looking for, Sick Boy was by far my favorite character) but I've already read it, and something like Less than Zero wouldn't because it's somehow both too dry and too dramatic in tone and plot.

    1. Basketball Diaries. Don’t judge this amazing memoir by the dumb hollywood film they made of it. …”It is an edited collection of the diaries he kept between the ages of twelve and sixteen. Set in [New York City](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City), they detail his daily life, sexual experiences, high school basketball career, poetry compositions, the [counterculture](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterculture_of_the_1960s) movement, and especially his addiction to [heroin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroin), which began when he was 13.[^([1])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Basketball_Diaries_(book)#cite_note-1)^(“….)
