    Hey everyone,

when I started reading again a few years ago, I was originally planing to read the top 100 of fantasy. Turned out that – besides Gene Wolfe – there wasn't really an author I could stick with for long. The more I read, the more I focused on what felt lacking to me.

Then I found Stephen King and he made me aware, that I have the most fun in reading characters that feel like real people – something fantasy always felt being short of.

In fact, I never really cared too much for the story (although that's a plus, ofcourse), but 11/22/63 is an absolutely masterpiece, closely followed by Pet Semetary, IT, Joyland, Later and The Institute. I haven't read The Stand and Dark Tower yet and I want to avoid SK fatigue in the long run.

So long story short, can you guys recommend novels of any genre with well written, believable characters like Stephen King does it?

    Thanks!

    1. If you’re into Stephen King, you definitely shouldn’t sleep on The Shining. My Mom has read a lot of King and she also liked Dean Koontz and John Saul.

It might help if you take the What Color Reader are you test. That might help you to figure out what you’re looking for in a book besides believable characters.
