Hi all — I’m looking for novels that explore unusual, emotionally complex maternal-type dynamics. Not necessarily biological mother/daughter, but relationships that carry that kind of charged, caretaking, possessive, or codependent energy.
I’m especially drawn to bonds that feel:
• emotionally intense or uneven
• nurturing but also unsettling
• layered, messy, or psychologically complicated
• almost familial, but not quite traditional
Open to any genre — literary fiction, psychological drama, speculative, etc. I’m less interested in wholesome motherhood stories and more in something strange or emotionally fraught.
