I finally read my dark Vanessa and considering this is a book I finished in one day I do what I mostly do, I went on internet and research the book mainly watching and people summary and opinion of the book and I see pretty much the same thing, people getting mad a Vanessa and I understand why, she was groomed and abused by her teacher and yet after all the things Strane does to her she still defends him convincing herself she isn’t the victim and “she knew what she was doing” dismissing the girls as liars even though strane called her a liar and emotionally disturbed.
I did find myself getting annoyed and wanted to shake her and said “YOU ARE THE VICTIM” but I thought about it and it reminded of a video Julia fox said about how some abuse victims will refuse to see themselves as the victim because “they could’ve left when they wanted too” and it reminded me of a friend of mines who had a similar fate like Vanessa refusing to see herself as victim.
Vanessa was brainwashed by strane and we see how he controlled and manipulated her, Vanessa herself knows how inappropriate that relationship was how Strane was a monster and all he did was take and take and I think that disgusted her but her mind wanted to give her a more comforting feeling that her and strane was “in love” and that she went through was a love story than wanting to face reality that she was a victim!
