Hi, just watched the film adaption yesterday and was interested in reading the original book. Does anyone know if it’s hard to read? I’ve read quite a lot of classic novels and sometimes find it hard to get through them as obviously the language is quite different. Anyone had a problem with reading it? Thank you 🙂

It’s not very hard, if you’ve read a couple classics you can almost certainly read it just fine. However, one character in particular speaks in a Yorkshire dialect and that can be a bit tough to understand. Whenever I listened on audiobook I had no idea what he was saying, but the majority of the novel is relatively easy to read.
It’s not too bad. Be advised, though, that this current movie is nothing like the book. It’s like Wuthering Heights fan fiction.
The first few chapters are a bit more formal, but it gets easier after that. That being said it can be difficult to pick up on what’s being said between the lines without the period-specific context. I’d pick up an annotated copy if you can find one.
Also there are translations available online for the character with the incomprehensible accent.
Just be prepared for the book not to be anything like the movie. So don’t be surprised if there’s less romance or focus on the so-called main characters.
