I’ve been craving a book lately that is roughly set in the 1920s or earlier that give like whimsical cirque de Soleil vibes that’s just grungy and weird. Like when I say weird I mean down right WHACK. Like random weird interesting stuff is happening all around and it’s like a fun book with some dark themes. Like circus or pirates or other strange things with magic if needed.
I’ve read the ladies of the secret circus but it didn’t really scratch that itch that I have. I enjoyed the parts of the book that were set in the 20s but the modern day stuff was a bit boring for me. Not enough weird and whacko and whimsy elements.
Pls tell me there is something out there in the void for me to consume

Maybe try The Manual of Detection by Jedediah Berry? I don’t recall exactly when it is set but it is quite strange and a pretty twisty read, in a pleasant way.
