I have insomnia and chronic pain, so I can be laying awake for hours before I manage to fall asleep. I finally managed to buy myself a sleep mask with built in earphones and sometimes listen to ASMR, though I can’t relax to most I’ve come across. What stories/books have you found the audiobook is repeatable and could help you fall asleep?

I remember I had The Worst Witch and Famous Five cassettes growing up. Any that help you now? I could really use something I can put on that will be interesting enough that it’s easy to listen to, but not keep me awake wanting to know what happens 😅

I listen to audiobooks to fall asleep too. Are you a reader? I read a lot, both physical and audiobooks (but more audio since having a baby and so little time for the real thing). The thing I find most useful is to pick a book I have already read / listened to and enjoyed. I have the Libby app so just go back through my catalogue for books that are currently available and pick one.

I find that listening to audiobooks of books I have read in print work for me. I don’t have to pay as close attention, etc. and resuming an audiobook is easy since I can locate where I was in the story. Of course the narrator is key. For years I listened to the Harry Potter books read by Jim Dale (I realize the issues with Rawling, etc).

    3. Books that you’ve already read before are good for this. For example, for me, it might be the audiobooks of *The Lord of the Rings* or *The Chronicles of Narnia*.

I don’t generally fall asleep to audiobooks, but when I need one to put me to sleep, I go to Libby, and my library has a couple of positive affirmation books that put me right to sleep. Fiction usually makes my brain wake up and want to listen, so this works for me. Plus, maybe I’m getting the affirmations subconsciously. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you’re open to podcasts, The Sleepy Bookshelf has *the* most soothing British reader & she reads books & short stories that are in the public domain. Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland, Anne of Green Gables, etc.

I have that same sleep mask and that same problem! I wish I had suggestions but I’m looking forward to what pops up in this thread.
