I cannot find anything from the usual sources. My students are adults 18 – 60, some incarcerated, all with minimal reading skill.
ALL of the books I can find through the usual sources are intended for children, or ridiculously and offensively moralistic.
I need engaging short stories and poems that are geared for adults, but also at a grade 2 – 4 level for vocabulary. The Hi-Lo books suck. I'm about to write my own, but I thought I'd ask here first. TIA

This might be a long shot, but the spiderwick Chronicles might fit the bill. I read them when I was in Middle School and I still go back to them almost two decades later. They’re very easy to read however they are also highly enjoyable. Plus the art is fantastic!
