Two I’ve read recently:
Waxy cones by Jennifer Mercer
This is a great book about a woman who moves across the country with her sus as fuck husband and there’s some fishy business. Is he a bad guy? Is it someone else? Who are these small town people and can we trust them? For her first book, it’s great! I’ve read books by popular authors that don’t stack up.
Bad Cree by Jessica Johns
Supernatural horror of a Cree woman’s dreams taking her on a spooky ride. Covers some generational violence and trauma, importance of Community, supernatural elements and cultural lore ✨
Incidents around the house by Josh Malerman
Spooky ghost story (maybe?) but what I loved, is that its narrated by the child of the family being haunted unique story telling and perspective. I’m not sure I loved the ending, but it was his debut novel and all things considered, it was incredible. I think this one is getting some attention and maybe a movie??? So maybe he doesn’t need the help but I really enjoyed LOL
