I mostly mean not just statistics etc. Anything that's both historical and interesting/entertaining to read as well. I've read With The Old Breed by Eugene Sledge, Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie, and Band Of Brothers by Steven Ambrose so far.

The Escape Artist by Jonathan Freedland. About one of the few prisoners ever to escape Auschwitz. Non-fiction but reads like a thriller.
For fiction, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
Devil’s Guard by George Elford. It might be real, it might not, but its a fun read. Super popular in the service
