I want a book without:
- 'Kitchen sink' prose. I am not interested in anyone's divorce, family trauma or diagnosis. I want a grand conflict, something more thriller-like or political.
- Loving descriptions of female/male physique of any kind. Whether it's joking, playful, surreal, grotesque, etc, I am not interested in it. Yes, I know they're there for reason, yes, they can be good, blah, blah, can we just not, though. The same goes for sex acts or fantasies. I am not a prude, I just want none of it, please. I just rarely agree with authors on these things and I'd rather concentrate on something else.
- To be honest, detailed romance. Some kind of romantic subplot is okay, some kind of suffering or longing, but please no romance-centered books.
- Gore, horror, and so on. I don't mind horror, but I just want something more intelligent and nuanced rather than a thrill.
I want a book with:
- Interesting, unique writing style.
- Characters that stay with you for a long time. Distinct personalities, maybe even a bit 'larger than life', but within realm of the possibility.
- It's okay if it's dark, as long as it's not totally bleak and doesn't get neither into gore nor 'kitchen sink' neighborhood drug dealer problems or something.
- As I said, something grandiose, some kind of unique plot, maybe a book that was the first to explore some twist or topic.
- Serious approach, so no fanfiction-derived pseudo-prose, obviously. No booktok.
- Preferably something old or a lesser known classic.
- Can be from any country in the world.
Thank you!
