I’ve recently been wanting to get into classics. I started with Jane Eyre and got about 50 pages in, but I’m finding it a bit more challenging than I expected. My vocabulary isn’t very broad yet, so there's a lot of unfamiliar words. Most of the time I can figure things out through context and keep going, but occasionally the sentence structure itself is hard to follow, and I lose track of what’s being said.
I know that if I keep reading, I’d probably adjust, but I think I’d rather start with something more beginner-friendly and come back to Jane Eyre later when I have more experience. I’ve heard so many good things about it, and I don’t want my first read to feel frustrating or rushed. Getting stuck on words or sentences keeps pulling me out of the story.
If anyone has recommendations for classics that are even more accessible for beginners, I’d really appreciate it.
