Reading Recommendations
Hey all, I'm making this post to get some good reading recommendations as I get back into my love of fantasy books. Growing up I used to read a lot, from the typical youth fiction books like PJO and Harry Potter but also got really into more general fantasy. I'm also a life long D&D fan so I just love the appeal of the fantasy genre.
Recently, I've been getting more frustrated with my normal hobby of competitive games and wanted to use my free time to enjoy more books. I picked up a few to get back into the swing and have enjoyed them. I got recommend Six of Crows a lot and enjoyed it and it's sequel. And despite the pretty obvious FF7 overlap, I just recently finished The Floating World by Axie Oh and got a lot of enjoyment from it as well, I'll be picking up it's sequel too.
I just want some general good recommendations in the YA Fantasy genre. I love adventure stories, especially any with an ensemble cast going on a quest. I'm also just a sucker for well written romance. Would love any recs, especially with synopsises! Thank you!

The Gilded Wolves series, by Roshani Chokshi
These may skew a bit older than YA, but still work the suggestions.
I really enjoyed Red Rising(trigger warning: sexual assault, rape). The first book gives Hunger Games, but the following books amp up to an amazing space opera.
Dresden Files- There are 17ish books so far, maybe more, so feel free to break these up in to chunks and take breaks. I describe these as ‘Horny Ron Weasley is a private detective in chicago’
Zodiac Academy – these are smut, but all the characters are like 18-23ish, so I consider them youngish adult. I hated the first book, but I kept going. It’s like reality tv for me in the way that I hate everybody, but can’t look away.
You might want to try Fran Wilde’s Bone Towers series, they felt like a video game world in a good way.
You could try the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. It starts out YA but pushes to a more mature reading level near the end so I mention that just in case you are a younger reader and really wanting to stick at the YA level. The first book follows an assassin trying to win her freedom in a competition held by the King for his new champion. If you like this series, ACOTAR is not YA but is a good place to go next.
Rebecca Ross has some really good books. Divine Rivals is a good one to start with. “When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, they must face the depths of hell, in a war among gods, to seal their fate forever.”
