Hi, I just recently got a kindle and have prime and want to save some money on books using prime reading. Something I'm seeing a lot of are available books that are part of like 4-6 book series. I'm just getting back into reading and it seems exhausting to start reading a book that's part of a series. I'd like to read books where the 300 or so page commitment results in a satisfying ending. A complete story and not one that's spread out over multiple books.
For the sake of my ADHD I need that gratification of completing something and being able to move onto new stories and ideas–at least for the time being until reading becomes a habit and not just a goal.
Can anyone recommend me good novels (not short stories) in sci-fi, horror, or crime thriller that are in prime reading and not part of a series? If this is difficult, I would also–but less willingly–accept if an ebook is part of a series but each book is a complete and disconnected story (like same universe but new characters is ok).
Some of my favorite authors are: Kurt Vonnegut, Isaac Asimov, Chuck Palahniuk, and Clive Barker. Some general favorite books are: Persuasion-J. Austen, Lord of the Flies-W. Golding, Annihilation-J. Vandermeer, Contact-C. Sagan.
Only looking for ebooks, no audiobooks please and thank you!
Note: Also I already know about Libby but the wait times are awful. Doing my best with holds and getting different library cards to help, but that's all I can really do.
