I love the story of the Star Wars prequels. Those movies definitely have lots of flaws but the story is so unique. Especially when you add in the context of The Clone Wars, the story is expanded even more and is something incredible. I don't think I've ever read or seen any other stories quite like it. Here are a few of the big reasons it stand out to me:
- Tragedy. The biggest reason I love the story is the tragedy of Anakin. He goes from the Chosen One and being the hero of the republic to becoming one of the most iconic villains out there. How he and Obi-wan go from being brothers to enemies. How he betrays all he stands for in the hopes of saving who he loves. It's the kind of tragedy that when I rewatch it, I find myself almost hoping that it ends differently this time and Anakin doesn't fall to the dark side.
- Characters. There are a lot of very good characters. Apart from Obi-wan and Anakin, there are lots of cool jedi, bounty hunters, great villains (Palpatine, Dooku, Maul, Grievous, Cad Bane, etc). There are also lots of characters that have a lot of growth or cool arcs like Ahsoka and Ventress. Lots of characters I really love.
- Setting. I love the world-building, jedi/sith lore, and the detailed and mystical feeling the galaxy has. Especially when including the Clone Wars, it is a pretty sprawling epic setting for a story.
Anyone have any good suggestions of books/stories that are like this? I am not really asking for something that is like Star Wars because it is a space fantasy/sci-fi. I'm looking for something that has the same types of characters and themes as the prequels. I want to feel the same way I do about some of these characters and how I feel when watching it. I would guess something in the fantasy genre, but I'm pretty open if there is anything else that seems to fit.
And before anyone suggests them, I have already read Red Rising and the Stormlight Archive.
