I’ll start: East of Eden.
It’s spoken as if the best book ever written. I went with that expectation and am afraid I was looking for some big suspense or powerful story – but the characters felt one-dimensional and the narrative lacked the depth I was hoping for.
I long for a book with high-class storytelling such as The Count of Monte Cristo, Les Misérables, The Idiot, The Night Circus, Vita Nostra, The ocean at the end of the lane, Shutter Island…
Please feel free to suggest me books based on my taste.
I’d love to hear if there’s any book that you find most overrated.

Piranesi.
You’re going to get big heat for the East of Eden hate. I’m on your side but don’t tell anyone
I found *Never Let Me Go* by Kazuo Ishiguro quite overrated. It’s hyped up to be this amazing emotionally destroying book but I just didn’t get that. I’ve enjoyed his other works (*The Buried Giant* and *The Remains of the Day*) so it wasn’t the writing style that was the problem for me.
***For Whom the Bell Tolls***
The Alchemist :/
I think most of the popular books at the moment are overrated
