Military history buff. Suggest some books non-fiction or historical fiction that center on conflicts in the break of Yugoslavia (10 Day War, Croatian War of Independence, Bosnian War, Kosovo War)

    1. Possibly not what you’re looking for but I read a great book called Zlata’s Diary. It’s like Anne Frank but for the Bosnian war

    2. Holbrooke wrote a memoir about the negotiation of the Dayton accords, and Wesley Clark wrote a forgettable memoir about the Kosovo war. also David halberstam wrote a great book about the DC politics side of the Balkan conflict, War in a Time of Peace.

If you’re willing to go outside the time period but stay in the region, the Bridge over the Drina is an amazing novel.

I just finished *Black Butterflies* by Priscilla Morris. It is more day-in-the-life literary fiction & is fairly simple, but I enjoyed the ease of it.

Another book that was recommended to me is *How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone* by Saša Stanišić.
