I recently read "Capitalism and Freedom" by Milton Friedman. I got an understanding of how Capitalism started to gain traction and how it was intended to work. Now I am looking for some books to read on Socialism. Could you suggest some compelling books on this topic. I am more curious to read how the proponents of socialism portray the idea.

TO THE FINLAND STATION by Edmund Wilson is a history of the socialist idea; it’s not written by an advocate, but it’s a clear and lucid history that complements Friedman well.
Principles of Communism by Friedrich Engels
Socialism: Utopian and Scientific by Friedrich Engels
The State and Revolution by Vladimir Lenin
