I’ve recently read Girl interrupted after being a fan of the movie for years. This has started me on a streak of rewatching old teen movies like Jennifer’s body.
I’ve heard people recommend virgin suicides but I’m cautious because it sounds sort of detective/mystery which I don’t like.
So I’m looking for recommendations that maybe follow complicated teenage lives, with rich writing (loved girl interrupted writing style), not interested in YA or overly simple storytelling or shallow characters.
I loved autobiography of red by Anne Carson and love leguin , if that gives any idea of what what type of writing I enjoy.
Character focused, can tackle mental health, social issues, or be satirical/self aware.
As a side note I also enjoy queer romances (wlw) and supernatural elements (like Jennifer’s body lol). Love feminist fiction and books by women.
