I am very financially stable. I have three healthy kids. I have a wife that loves me (most of the time). I have a career that most see as prestigious. I have no health concerns. I have a nice house. I'm still "young" (40).

Despite this, I find myself anxious, depressed, and unhappy much of the time.

I went out to eat the other night and saw a little girl with a bald head- cancer, probably. It really made me feel like an asshole for not appreciating what I have and how good I have it.

Sorry if this is too vague for a recommendation, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

      hmm.

for something uplifting, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke made me personally feel very grateful for life.

for the exact opposite vibe, and please hear that this would be for someone specific that would be comforted by reading a perspective that is from the true bottom depths of humanity, No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai may be an option. it is not my thing, but i do know some do gleam some comfort from reading it comparatively to their lives and thinking on it.

you can def find that perspective in books it just depends on what you’re looking for ie self help, psychology, uplifting fiction, philosophy, religion. it depends on what works for you
